Kiin LOVES dogs, has wanted one ever since he was a little kid, but his parents never let him get one because they said it was too much responsibility. He wants to get one as soon as he retires from pro-gaming and has his own place, and has even pitched the idea of getting a team dog back when he was on KDF, but the idea got shot down. He likes cats, too, but is extremely allergic to them so sadly he has to keep his distance :(

Canyon has a sweet tooth, which may not seem like that big of a deal but for those of you who don't know ShowMaker hates anything sweet or sugary, so Canyon's kept this a secret for years. He may or may not have gotten busted by deokdam while sneaking a caramel from the Dplus dorm stash at 3 am back in '22 but he was fiercely sworn to silence and the issue never came to light. On GenG, he lets himself indulge a bit more, but he'll still freeze up on occasion when someone enters the room as he's unwrapping a sweet or mid-bite of a dessert.

Chovy has prepared for the event of one of his friends/colleagues getting stuck in a timeloop by preparing a specific loop codephrase that only he knows, so that if anyone else says it to him, he'll know they've lived through that same day before. He's also already started brainstorming a list of likely reasons why he or someone else might get stuck in a timeloop so that if someone does approach him he has a few ideas of what to try. No one knows why he felt the need to prepare so much for this hyperspecific fantasy scenario, but some have speculated that he watched a movie about it when he was young and ever since has had an irrational fear of groundhog-daying. Else maybe he just read the handful of LoLRPF fics about time loops and wanted to be ready, lmao-

Peyz first started playing League after watching Faker win Worlds in 2017 - prior to that, he primarily played solo-play games like card battlers and online board games. When he was eleven, he overheard some of his classmates talking about League and decided to watch the World Finals in hopes of making friends that way. After that, he gave it a try, and learned that he really liked working with other players - he did need to be in a carry role, though, in case the rest of his team wasn't up to standard. It was a few years later when he told his parents that his dream was to become a pro-gamer.

Lehends watched a TON of b-tier soap operas (k-dramas?) growing up and it used to drive his family crazy because he'd recite the most random lines from it at inopportune times (cue young Siwoo in detention because he told the teacher 'you only think that because you're pregnant with her husband's child', which is evidently not an appropriate response to being told he answered the math problem incorrectly). His television use was regulated after that, but then he discovered webtoons and got his tacky romance fix that way. If he's having a bad day, sometimes he'll still queue up one of his old favorites, maybe an episode of a drama that he can recite every word to, and curl up under the covers with snacks and act out the whole thing to himself.

That's one for everyone, but their group dynamic is very fun as well! If you watch their streams/vods you know that they all play arena with each other pretty regularly, and I love how they all take care of each other, especially how they all tend to Peyz. In my mind, Gen.G is essentially Peyz's adopted father (Canyon), mother (Chovy), tired uncle (Kiin) and wine aunt (Lehends), which is kind of hilarious because Peyz already has a way better home life than any of the four of them, yet they're all so devoted to taking care of him.

(ok so to my knowledge this hyperspecific scenario hasn't been done before?? but if it turns out me from two years ago had an accidental subconscious theft moment, please let me know!! But here goes:)

So we all know the trope/idea of multiple whumpees captive under one whumper? Well here's an extension of that: two whumpees with at least some level of acquaintance with each other, both taken into long-term captivity around the same time, in the same cell. Maybe they have a limited range of movement from chains, or maybe they have free roam of the cell, but every 2-3 days the same outcome proceeds regardless: whumper hauls one of them out, tortures them for variable amounts of time, then returns them to the same cell.

Here's how it gets juicier: the whumper only ever picks one of them. Through the weeks (maybe even a month or two) that they've endured thus far, the whumper is consistent in only this regard and the ever-worsening intensity of these torture sessions. I love thinking about how this would affect the emotional dynamic between these two characters, there's so much shit there that can happen depending on their personalities!!! Perhaps the one being picked (A) grows to resent the other (B) while the other feels a burning guilt every time their fellow captive is tossed back into the cell. Maybe they grow to care for each other!! I'm very partial to that last point, but getting back on track:

This all horrifically culminates in a final session where whumpee A is brutally, permanently mutilated in some much larger/worse way. I'm thinking dismemberment of some kind, but feel free to take your pick otherwise!! After whumper patches them up, because of course they can't have their captive actually dying on them, they're thrown back into the cell. Whumpee B, who knows nothing of this other than 'this session is taking a disturbingly long time, what do you mean they'll be just a bit longer what did you do' is fucking terrified with whumper's work, and serves as whumpee A's caretaker over the next few days.

Then, four days after whumpee A is returned to their cell, whumper asks for whumpee B. With this cycle established, everything gets so. Much. Worse.

So yeah! Those are the thoughts for tonight. Or like, thoughts from several years ago that I still enjoy today, but regardless thank you for reading!!

OOOH THATS HARD ACTUALLY!!! im not entirely sure but i do have some very glaring biases in the poses i draw i havent drawn that much mother art much in 2023 (and i had to delete a lot of original art from 2023) so excuse the general/other fandom art

a lot of the more dynamic poses in my art sort of have this compressed shape going on, following a sort of form as i go

being a [very much so obvious] furry (and sort of therian), i like to use what i use for my animal art and apply it to humanoid art to recreate that sort of raw animalistic emotion that normally wouldnt be easy to express through realistic depictions

but tbh i think in general my favorite thing to draw like ever isnt even something part of the grand scope of my art, its this hyperspecific thing: curves

but like, sharp sharp curves. that sort of almost fan-blade shape? LOVe IT

you can see a lot of it all over my more artistic art, for lack of a better term? and once you pick up on it you can never unsee it

oh and teeth are really fun too. also the furry part in me, its fun creating bold expressions with teeth, even though human teeth are BOOOOOORIIIIIING

okay so. I think that after they met while joining the IPRE, Magnus became interested in Taako pretty quickly. Taako is handsome and tough and pretty and smart as hell, of course Magnus notices all of that immediately. but I can’t imagine him actively trying to pursue a relationship given the whole, yknow, they’re about to literally leave their planet. he’s got bigger picture things to focus on. but I think they do spend quite a bit of time together. Taako actively seeks him out because, despite how much he pokes fun at him, he does think Magnus is fun and cute and sweet. they get along really well, and I like to think Magnus’ pure optimism and general sweetheart behavior made him the first member of the IPRE to really get to spend quality time with Taako without Lup present.

and then I think. there was definitely some light flirting on Taako’s end that was very casual. not super forward or anything, just little things like slightly-more-affectionate pet names or passive compliments that indicated he was paying close attention. and Magnus picked up on maybe half of it. the rest of the time he was like “man Taako’s such a nice guy. what a good friend.” and meanwhile Taako was pulling his hair out going “how is he not in love with me yet I’m being so alluring”

and this dynamic continued for a little while. they got closer. the stolen century actually began. and I think things stayed that way for a handful of cycles, because I don’t feel like either of them would be super focused on starting a relationship while trying to navigate their new lives. but I do think they got closer and closer as teammates and began to rely on each other more, which neither of them placed any extra emphasis on because they were growing closer with everyone else too.

and then I think their relationship started building again a little less than a decade into the century. they’d gotten used to the pattern and their new life, they had a better grasp on the entire situation. and I think they started to lean on each other more and more. Magnus would come to Taako to vent or theorize or talk about their home, and Taako would pick up on the fact that he was seeking comfort and offer it to him, usually through small gestures like making him something to eat and patting him on the shoulder while they talked. Taako would eventually start doing the same sort of thing, showing up to Magnus’ room just to sit quietly when he was struggling in some way and needed to be near someone else. and Magnus would be so sweet and careful about offering him support without hurting his ego, which Taako definitely appreciated.

so. I think things went on like that for a bit and they just continued to get closer and more reliant on one another. and then one day Magnus is sitting in Taako’s room watching him scribble out plans for dodging the hunger and it suddenly strikes him that he’s in love with him. and he says it. and Taako just stops what he’s doing and looks and him and goes “did we not already know this?” & naturally Magnus is a little surprised that Taako recognized his own feelings before him, but he doesn’t have time to worry about that before Taako kisses him.

and I think they date for a while. they work well together and understand how to support one another. they’re a good team!! and both of them are able to find a certain kind of shelter with each other, feeling safe and loved despite facing the end of the world annually. it’s not always easy, but they make a point to work things out when it gets hard.

I don’t really have a timeline for how long they’re officially dating, but I think by the fiftieth cycle, things have changed a little bit. not in a bad way, there’s just been a shift in their dynamic that has changed the way their relationship looks; they’re no longer calling themselves boyfriends, but they’re still super familiar with and supportive of each other. I don’t think they really label the dynamic but they’ve essentially just naturally shifted into being queer platonic partners. they’re technically exes but no one would guess that from seeing them interact. they love each other so much

and oh boy. after the stolen century, after losing their memories, after being (unbeknownst to them) reunited. I think Taako is a little interested in this handsome human he’s working with. the guy’s a little dense but it’s sort of charming to him! Magnus thinks the elf he’s traveling with is very pretty, but he’s not exactly planning on dating anyone anytime soon. he wants to be good buds! and so over the course of their time with the BOB they get closer and a little more intimate with each other, but never to the point of potentially dating. there’s love there and it feels rather platonic for both of them.

and then they get their memories back. and I think it takes Taako a very long time to talk to Magnus about any of it. which is probably a good thing, it gives them both time to digest everything they've been through, and I think their friendship starts to deepen again once they do talk about their history. the love they had lost is back and only reinforced by the fact that they managed to cultivate such a meaningful relationship even without those memories. they eventually get back to where they were during the stolen century, although that takes a couple of years. their relationship is defined by mutual love and they look out for each other as they navigate living (sort of) normal lives

8. ♻️ A scrapped idea for your current WIP

I already mentioned how Exorcist!Vaggie knocked a chapter off of my Survey fic, so to avoid repeats I’m gonna pick another fic.

I decided to change the setting in an UH3 smut fic because there were too many different elements going on all at once.

That entire fic is actually going to be based on a scene I had to scrap from Bloodlust and Butterflies. It was in the 2020 precursor fic, Tempting Entertainment, but I chose not to include it in the rewrite because it didn’t seem thematically appropriate.

They were going to be in an elevator, for no real reason besides the fact that that’s where they were in the old fic.

The more I was writing though, the more I realized that I wasn’t doing anything with that setting, and it was just taking away from the things I actually wanted to focus on.

9. 🤔 What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?

I typically get at least a few sentences down when I have an idea in my head, so I might have to rack my brain a bit to find something I haven’t started.

Oh, you know what? I’ve got a whole lineup of Women of Eden fics planned that I haven’t started yet. I’ll tell you one of those.

I want to tell the story of Lilith, Eve, and Charlie.

Eve is not just a mother, but the first mother. Eve and Lilith will have known each other for eons by the time Lilith considers becoming a mother, herself, and I imagine that Eve would be Lilith’s go-to confidant on all things motherhood.

I think Eve would become somewhat of an Aunt-figure to Charlie, and I’d love to explore the dynamic between all three of them.

There’s also a somewhat somber note in that, as far as Eve knows, she will never see her children again. She views all of the Sinners as her children in a way, because they’re all her descendants. She loves them, and she has mourned every year since the exterminations began.

But, they aren’t the children she raised, they aren’t the children she remembers.

There’s going to be some sadness there – some jealousy, even – when Eve sees Lilith and Charlie. I want to write it.

There’s some specifics about pacing and plots in a few fics and of course, not knowing Australian slang is a hurdle in writing dialogue for Cherri – specifically 1980’s Australian slang; like, how do I even find that?? – but my main problem is just…

I can’t seem to write. I’ve been burnt out and distracted since Husk’s chapter. I’ve had a busy week this week, and haven’t actually written anything at all.

Cherri’s chapter is currently all just dialogue that I wrote a while back, which is something I tend to do when I get an idea for a fic. I write some dialogue or some exposition that was rattling around in my brain and I fill in the rest later.

Well, it’s later. And I’m making fake tumblr dash posts, hyperspecific polls, and playing ask games.

TBH I could go on for even more paragraphs about my many problems with how Mei's treated by the fandom so here's some petty complaints I left out of the first ask:

Mei, MK, and Red Son all simultaneously being foils of each other is SUPER interesting. I just talked about Mei and MK as well as Mei and Red Son parallels, and like it SLAPS. I should delve into MK and Red Son parallels, but that's for another time.

On the topic of Mei being compared to Willow, I think it's because they're both green girl characters who are considered "tough"? It's a very vague archetype—but, I think fandom in general likes to put characters into these nebulous categories. Each character gets sanded down to like 3 base traits and everyone calls it good. It's genuinely maddening.

And personally, I don't really ship anyone in LMK (excluding Freenoodles), so the amount of ship art I see and the way ships predominate is very off-putting for me. I think that's mainly because none of the actual show really focuses on romantic relationships (one of it's virtues, I'm an MK is aroace truther), but to each their own. Shipping is super fun, and I totally get it. However, when it gets to the point where no other relationships/dynamics are really focused on, especially on a show so focused on friendship, it just feels off. It feels even MORE off when the only time you discuss the main female lead is to ship her with Red Son.

AND LOL THE FEMALE VILLAINS. MY POOR GIRLS. I don't think I've ever come across a post about Spider Queen (though her henchmans get a lot of love), and really it's a shame. That girl was doomed by the narrative, and BOY was she doomed by the narrative with MK. Granted she's been dead for 2 seasons, but I STILL see Sandy and Huntsman art, so idk. It honestly feels like the misogyny.

Lady Bone Demon and I are best friends and I love her so much. Truly one of the most villains of all time. "No staff and no backup—so, your plan is to fist fight a child?" OH MY GOD SHE'S SO ICONIC. That AND she has fucked up parallels to MK (sorry my boy foils just about every character in this show, he's a reflection), what is there not to love?

She TRIED to go about helping the world the "right" way, attempting to lead someone with real power to be better (as shown in the 3x11 flashback, but on god that scene parallels her whole relationship with spider queen), and IT DIDN'T WORK. So then she tried to "help" the world by starting with a clean slate, and that didn't work. And then you realize that she was doomed by the narrative just as much as anyone else. I'm fucking obsessed with her. Seriously, the "to pain" scene has been in my head for 5 straight months. I'll never stop yelling about it.

I've been listening to Lady Hell by Dirt Poor Robins on repeat thinking about LBD, and I can't help but rotate her in my mind. She captivates me.

umm in actual honest to g nothing at all about canon has changed except that S&D are canonically fucking? I think the answer is... no. I think there are plenty of dudes Dean would be open to and there may be some that Sam is open to on his own (though clearly that's a vastly smaller number), but it's the integration of the other into the world of obsessive two that makes it so much more difficult. A random stranger? Sure, there's not really any problem there, although I think there might be a dynamic assessment that they'd do -- a twink is nbd, but another toppy guy...? Sam's going to have to assess, lol. (Of course this also slightly depends on when it happens, but I find my mental established relationship!chesters tend to be in the solidity of s11, and there Sam is very watchful of Dean's safety and happiness and so if he were doing the choosing, which lbr he would, it would be a very careful choice, just for Dean's sake. [muffled scream, they love each other so muhuhuhuhuch.])

But like, let's go through the likely candidates:

Castiel: no. It'd have to be in a VERY specific timeframe, particularly a moment when Dean wasn't mostly angry at him all the time. s4/5 is one of the better spots for the destiel part of the model, but they're really fraught in the wincest relationship -- and Sam's on his back foot for a while there, but he's never at a lack-of-self-respect spot where he'd let Dean supersede him at the same moment that Dean might consider Cas. s6, no. s7, no. s8, tricky -- Sam's guilt might allow it, but Cas is acting too g.d. weird w/r/t the mind control for Dean to let him in. s9 when Cas is human is the best shot I think they've got, and I have actually written that under commission, but Dean letting Gadreel into that situation already feels... off. Possible, but not for the most in-character versions I can think of. And then after s9 the likelihood just gets lower and lower. Sorry, Cas.

Crowley: lol, no. There's like 45 seconds where Sam almost kinda likes him but then the jealousy goes SUPERNOVA.

Benny: no, and it's really too bad. Sam doesn't trust him until he's dead. (What does that tell us about jealous!Sam, by the way.) But Benny's such a great candidate because he knows his place, exactly -- Sam's uppermost in Dean's mind always, and Benny doesn't argue about that at all, and everyone knows the score. I wrote a little canon divergence to make room, but in canon as presented -- sorry, Dean, you'll have to get your DP elsewhere.

And after that, really, who are our other legit options? Bobby? No. John? Ahaha but no. Garth, Ash, Max the Witch, Paul the Bartender, Cesar & Jesse for a fun foursome? Just doesn't seem likely.

You can construct these hyperspecific moments where a really-for-real-canon character might go for it, but you have to get past 1) whatever canon debacle is happening at the moment, 2) ensure that the wincest element is safe and solid, and 3) get the third over the fact that they're fucking brothers -- something easy to gloss over in 'private' wincest, but it's something that shouldn't be discarded in threesome fic. Even if the third might not care -- monsters&angels&demons might totally shrug -- Sam and Dean might care, and particularly Dean, and Sam knows that Dean sometimes gets off hardest when he's humiliated but it doesn't mean he wants to invite that into their bed when he doesn't need to.

So. A hard sell. (Canon divergence AUs are our friend.)

so what’s your verdict on ragnarok? i saw some people say that it was good but not as good as the first game so i’m curious to know what you think. going to play it this summer 😎

okok this might get long so here’s the non-spoilery short of it: i really loved playing through ragnarok but i do agree that i liked 2018 more! I’ll put the significantly longer portion under the cut and ill do my best not to spoil any main story portions while talking about it lol

ragnarok definitely lets you explore far far more. i think theres a couple of places where you can tell they didnt want to drag the story out so they cut stuff for time but i personally feel like the game could’ve very well used that. and i think the fact that 2018 is like a good number of hours longer than ragnarok makes it a little bit surprising when you get to the endpoint.

also unlike 2018— though this matters less to me— there are parts of the game that you can only actually finish once youre done with the main story. it has a few epilogue pieces which are definitely a nice send-off for the game and you can explore just a little bit more, but if im honest it feels a bit empty..? though im not done with postgame so when i get there ill probably post abt it more 😼

storywise i feel like there’s some things that could definitely have improved or been changed in some way… i absolutely loved the new dynamics between old characters and getting to see how theyve grown with each other since 2018. its super heartwarming to me. but some parts really did feel rushed and while the ending was good some parts just felt kind of… abrupt??? i’d love to know how they would have refined the story with just a bit more time because personally it feels like theres still a loose end or two that hasnt been addressed. that said its by no means a BAD story— i really liked going through it! the best way i can think to put it is that it’s an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish.

in terms of MECHANICS… i’ll be completely honest some of them were so incredibly frustrating that id considered giving up on some of the fun side stuff they encourage you to do (like nornir chests and whatever else may have you). even some parts of the main quest were a little bit confusing to me…?? at some points there are puzzles that aren’t super straightforward and it got a little tiring to play guess and check. that said there aren’t a lot of them, but it definitely left me a little bit annoyed during gameplay. i should mention though for some of the mechanics in question they DO have a crazy good range of accessibility settings that help you more clearly see things like interact-able objects and targets etc. so making use of those definitely lessened the annoyance for me personally lol. that said it does not work for all of them and if you Want to go collecting extras then you might have to sit there frustrated a few times before it works out 🥲

one more thing i should probably mention in regards to game mechanics is the skill trees… i’ll keep this explanation light as to avoid heavy spoilers but essentially they give you a LOT of skills to upgrade with XP. and i mean a lot. i have not used even half of them they do nothing for me 💀 i would guess this is their way of letting you do more with XP since in 2018 you rack it up faster than you can spend it but there are so many in ragnarok. and if im honest it feels like a lot of them are kind of … useless in combat. or at least very very situational. they do give you the chance to upgrade skills you use the most which i really like but i find it kind of weird how many of them are reliant on hyperspecific situations while also costing a significant amount when you unlock them.

OH. and also. i kind of wish the companion armor had some sort of effect…???? like in 2018 i loved atreus’ healthstone effect because it suited my playstyle. but all companion armor is purely cosmetic. they seem to have replaced that with accessories you can equip them with that have different effects but i also didnt really feel much of a difference with them until postgame 😿 an edge ragnarok has on 2018 though is definitely that you can customize what your armor looks like while taking the stats of another. which is awesome because im tired of making him look like hes wearing a sweater vest at a holiday gathering. ill admit though the menuing is a little bit more confusing lol

ANYWAY. to finish this off i feel like i loved a lot about ragnarok but after having seen what they did in 2018 i feel like they probably couldve pushed it a bit more. that said the story is absolutely crazy and i loooove certain routes they went with it so it definitelys worth playing imo. i just wouldnt expect it to be just like the first game 👍 there are some major changes i havent listed because i think seeing them for yourself will be awesome

4 - Favorite character you’ve written

Man this is interesting to think about!! I was thinking that my answer was likely going to be swayed by current vs former hyperfixations, so I decided to break down my favorite elements of writing characters instead, which gave me:

I love writing characters with weird, hyperspecific areas of expertise that overlap with mine (or with my interests, at least), so I can really dig into that and use lots of metaphors/references/etc in their thoughts and dialogue

I also love writing characters that have fun banter with other characters

Pinning down one favorite honestly feels a little against the spirit of the question to me (I have written for so many fandoms over the years, and my special interests have come and gone accordingly), but as far as a few that have been a lot of fun, I have a soft spot for Newt Geiszler, Ford Pines, and Doc Brown (who I have only written in drafts, but might be my very favorite of the bunch)

(Drifting slightly from the "weird scientist" archetype going on there, I am also having a ton of fun writing Raine Whispers, because of my experience and knowledge as a violist too!)

An honorary shoutout also has to go to characters whose banter I love to write, which usually come in duos. Percy & Keyleth and Luz & Hunter are all great examples of characters who give me the opportunity to write my favorite stupid found sibling bickering dynamics, and I love them.

Something about the fact that Hawkeye always remembers the things that are easily forgotten always gets to BJ. Losing the intimacy and hyperspecificity of their dynamic was something that BJ had feared about returning to the states, but Hawkeye demonstrates over and over that there’s no chance of that happening. (Because it’s not just that Hawkeye remembers the way BJ likes his eggs. It’s the way he remembers lines from poems, and the mystery authors BJ likes, and crossword clues, and recipes, and which bedtime stories are Erin’s favorites, and that it’s never a chore. That it comes to him as easily as a song, and just as endearing for BJ to hear cross his lover’s lips.)

But while the idea may only make sense to BJ, it suddenly becomes necessary to eat his eggs a little different today. Not to resist Hawkeye’s attention to detail or to prove him wrong, by any means. (While their respective competitive streaks may never go away, they don’t play those games of one-upmanship anymore. It’s so much easier to lend a hand than strike a blow.) Maybe it’s more about the desire to eat the same thing as Hawkeye, to share in the same act of consumption; as if, for some silly reason in his brain, it will show Hawkeye—something. He can’t quite name what.

“Well, wait a second,” he says, and Hawkeye pauses before cracking the eggs. “You’re taking yours scrambled?”

“Is Eisenhower bald?”

“Then I’ll take mine scrambled, too,” BJ says, putting the water for the coffee on to boil.

Hawkeye turns on the radio to the jazz station, which plays songs that were already old ten years ago, and starts singing nonsense to whatever is playing. BJ knows Hawk is never one to give up an opportunity for a little performance, even if it’s for an audience of one, and this morning is no exception. He always sings, always jokes, always needles, always grins. But there’s something in the way Hawkeye dances around and sings and laughs so brightly while performing the simplest of tasks that tugs at his heartstrings.

And that’s when BJ realizes it’s not about the eggs. Well, it is, but it’s not. It’s about the way Hawkeye seems to take pleasure solely in being thoughtful, whether it’s through the remembering of details or the taking of action. The act of making breakfast for someone you love and never growing tired of the task, is so intimate, so gentle, so very Hawk that BJ finds himself tearing up.

After Hawkeye slides the eggs from the pan onto a plate, BJ wraps his arms around his waist and buries his face in the crook of Hawkeye’s neck.

“What?” Hawkeye chuckles.

“Do you know how much you mean to me?” BJ murmurs, pressing gentle kisses into the soft skin above Hawkeye’s collarbone. “I don’t think I could ever tell you enough, but I’ll try for as long as you’ll let me.”

Not so much a prompt as hc ask but whats your take on RC culture regarding relationships, platonic or otherwise? I always found it interesting how close Crookedstar was said to be with Silver and how Oakheart was implied to be very involved in his kits lives, but were they outliers due to the tragedy of their circumstances/experiences or nah?

Also love thinking about how Mistyfoot and Stonefur took on Silver’s kits as apprentices...Like in part it was probably bc of the half-clan revelation thing sure, but I love to imagine they were all a friendly cousins trio even if Misty and Silverstream closer.

Side note: loving a lot of aspects of the kinship system you use, but particularly the concept of “maara”!!! Very helpful for explaining relationships and wholesome to boot

okay so in general, riverclan has the closest "nuclear family" units. in fact! riverclan is the only clan where the father is expected to help name the kits. in every other clan, it's the right of the queen. (altho in skyclan and thunderclan the father is often allowed to help.)

riverclan is also just generally touchy-feely and friendly, in part because in the forest, they had very little external pressure. they share a border with windclan, and windclan and riverclan have very incompatible hunting styles, and thunderclan, with whom they fought over a pile of rocks.

but they were always well-fed, since in most winters, it's not going to get cold enough to completely freeze over their water sources, and even then, they can hunt on land. i do not subscribe to mistystar's omen and the implication that riverclan can't hunt on land, because that...implies that there's a lot of fish in the river. like, a lot.

so while thunderclan is trying to seem Tough because of their border with the twoleg place, windclan had shadowclan to feud with, and shadowclan had prey-poor territory, riverclan was just chilling.

(imo, the thunder/shadow rivalry was a very new development in tpb. in basically all the prequels, thunderclan and riverclan fight far more than thunderclan and shadowclan. specifically, in bluestar's prophecy, we see a battle with riverclan and windclan (and they don't even share a border), but no momental battle with shadowclan unless my memory is really failing me.)

so anyway, riverclan's culture is that of abundance, and that means art and family.

specifically to crookedstar's family, his relationship with silverkit is pretty common, especially considering willowbreeze is dead. now, adoption by choice sacrifices the kit's previous bloodkin, but silverkit losing her mother is not that. sunfish is definitely silverkit's mother, but crookedstar is still her father.

if willowbreeze was alive, their dynamic would probably be less father/daughter bond and more family bond, but they'd still be close.

usually, when a kit loses one parent, it's their father. just, statistically, their father is more likely to be the one who goes to battle, and if the queen dies, the kits are very likely to die. so there's established "behavior" for that: (riverclan) queens will take their kits to the shrine of their father, tell them stories, etc.

but in this case, crookedstar isn't really welcome in the nursery, so even without his mapleshade problem, until silverkit is old enough to leave the nursery, he stuggles to bond with her. once she's about three moons old, and he's gotten over his mapleshade problem, though, he's very close with her.

so, uh, a little of both: he'd be close with her no matter what, but the father/daughter bond is definitely fostered by tragedy.

as for oakheart, it's a similar deal. when he gives the kits to greypool, they become her kits, but she's allowed to invite oakheart to be a father to them, which she does, and he takes his role very seriously.

if, say, bluefur had gone with oakheart to riverclan, that relationship would have been pretty much the same.

as a side note, oakheart and crookedstar are also definitely involved with all the kits. because they're brothers, they have the same relationship to each others kits (seya), and oakheart especially fills that role for silverkit while crookedstar is working on his mapleshade problem.

he backs off when crookedstar is repairing their relationship because he wants to give them space, but he's close with silverstream. i'd like to think that he has a good idea of what's going on with greystripe, considering he had a similar past.

and on that note! yes, so: to recap, by my kinship rules, mistyfoot and silverstream are sisters, so when silverstream dies, mistyfoot is definitely very involved in featherkit and stormkit's upbringing. doubly so considering their father can't provide a riverclan culture.

(stonefur is the brother of their mother, so he's uhre to them, which is a pretty minor relationship in the clan's eyes, but he's fond of the kits.)

but misty, stone, and silver are definitely close. silverstream is a fair amount younger than mistyfoot and stonefur, but willowbreeze and greypool are sisters and crookedstar and oakheart are brothers, so they're like, double siblings?

that's not how it works, my point is just they're close. silverstream is a generally popular cat, but she looks up to mistyfoot and stonefur. the fact that her kits get mentored by them means a lot to her, up in starclan.

and lastly! thank you! i designed it in part out of an enjoyment of worldbuilding, but also because, hyperspecifically, i was thinking about the po3 apprentices (berry, hazel, mouse, poppy, cinder, mole, honey, holly, jay, lion), and they all have a close bond. lionblaze and berrynose have a rivalry, they're all friends, and i haven't forgotten that in the sight, hazelpaw is the one to help jaypaw find a nest in the apprentice den.

and i wanted a word to describe that! because cats are very clique-y and form very close relationships in a group that tend to stick for a lot of their lives, especially in cat colonies.

I’ve thought about this for a bit and I think I’ve got it

1. Mikaele Salesa! To be honest I didn’t have a lot of interest in him as a character before S5, but the week his episode dropped I went from not really caring about him to obsessing over his character in like. 2 days. The theatrical introduction, his hyperspecific apocalypse prepping plans, his statement?? All art, I love him so much. Hope he’s enjoying his kayaking trip

2. A close second: Adelard Dekker!! I love everything to do with the extinction and Dekker’s role in it is just so fun. His character is super interesting to me (especially his struggles with faith amongst the entities, even if that was just a continuity mistake on Jonny’s end.) His statement in Rotten Core was brutal, but showcased everything I loved about him. Fierce determination and calm acceptance of what he couldn’t change. Plus his last words about Gertrude finding peace hit So Hard. The only reason he isn’t number 1 is that he doesn’t actually appear in person/on a recording in the podcast, which we were Seriously cheated out of in S4 (even if it was due to recording issues)

3. Helen! I originally preferred Michael before S5, but Helen popping up to talk with Jon and Martin throughout early S5 was hilariously fun. I loved her supportive energy and just. How Much Jon hated her being there combined with Martin’s indifference or even enjoyment of her presence. It was just such a fun dynamic. Plus, the episode where she died, where we really got to see how dangerous she was, was amazing! It was so intense and was one of a few moments in S5 where I was seriously worried about a main character’s wellbeing. I miss her already

4. Annabelle Cane! I had almost a grudge? Against Annabelle in s4? I really wasn’t a big fan of the Web before S5 for a lot of reasons, but once Annabelle started actually showing up? I warmed up to her a lot and now I just love everything she had going on. An amazing aesthetic, a wonderful voice, morally complex, and a thought provoking backstory. I think a lot about Annabelle’s definition of free will. Over all, very neat character. Glad I ended up liking her in the end <3

5. Unfortunately I think I have to say Peter Lukas?? Like objectively, very bad guy. But also? He had a way of getting under my skin and almost believing what he said and his manipulation of Martin that I’ve never felt with any other antagonist before? Like with Jonah Magnus, I just feel So Much hate for the man (and love for how he was written), but with Peter its a strange mix? Like yeah I hate him a lot, but its clear that I was just as easy as a target for him as Martin was and that makes him really compelling.

Honourable mentions to Hezekiah Wakely. I still think about his statement and that was Ages ago.

hey! as someone who routinely goes over their planned word counts (thank you for the 20k chapter updates), do you have moments when your word count is lower than what you planned? how do you deal with having too many ideas but not writing them out well? (if you do, that is)

well first of all i'm perfect and never screw up, so jot that down

this ended up being spoilery for 40, so if you haven't caught up yet ignore this nuclear bomb and drop me another ask so i can explain this with another example

i think i quite routinely have that concern, and it's a multi-step process for me to figure out where to take it. first, is falling short of my "planned word count" a genuinely concerning point, or just an ego thing? sometimes it takes writing out something to realise that while it feels expansive in my head, i don't necessarily want to delve into every tiny bit of it. and that's okay!

unlike with something you want to publish, especially a commercial novel which comes with pretty definite expectations about pacing and length, fic is pretty rules-out-the-window. it's okay if some chapters are shorter than others. if you ask me, it's better, because it means you're only serving up the bits you were excited to write, and it stands to reason that those are the bits people are interested in reading about.

for instance, i was surprised to have fallen short of thee quibblah benchmark for chapter 40, even though there was ostensibly a lot going on plot-wise. but in retrospect, i had some definite plot beats to hit and there weren't actually that many of them. a chapter doesn't have to be meaty for it to accomplish what you want it to!

if it seems like that's not the case, and i really do have more to say but can't figure out how to say it, this is where i stop trying to force myself to squeeze out scenes i'm not that invested in and go back to brainstorming/outlining. the important thing is that i need to find a way to make every scene exciting or interesting — even if a scene serves an important plot purpose, it can bore me, and that's a sign that i need to rethink something about it.

it sounds stupid but thinking is really important to my process tee em — i probably spend two or three times the amount of hours i am actively writing on thinking about my writing. especially when i have a big idea i really want to get right! so i go back to daydreaming and trying to add depth to my scene notes — which often begin as bare bones as (ok i'm trying desperately not to spoil 40 for you just in case so this will be really vague) "aurors react, what's their plan?"

when initially putting down that note, i knew fucking NOTHING about where it would go. all the way from whose perspective will this be from, will we actually see the aurors on the page or just hear about what they're doing, not to mention what is their plan. obviously, i then hit that moment in my drafting and began to panic. i discarded a bunch of ideas that i thought were not interesting enough (hearing the aurors through a broadcast, for instance, which i thought was already happening enough in that chapter), and couldn't really find an obvious cool angle. so then i was like, fine, we've established i will write from an auror's pov, so which one? i discarded a bunch of character options before finally settling, which then brought me to the next question.

i know this scene has to take place because it adds colour and depth to the larger plot, and gives the reader information that the main cast of characters doesn't necessarily have. but why should this specific character be our viewpoint? in chapter 32, i picked alice and frank for little auror interludes because the stakes were super personal for them both. in 40, i didn't have that option, so i had to manufacture a reason. i came up with two.

one was a really hyperspecific explanation for why that character would be in that situation, trying to break the death eaters' hold, that both developed her character in a way i thought was super fun and also dealt with a larger plot problem i was having (aka inferi in the books are way way too powerful and i needed a plausible way to, for lack of a better word, nerf them).

two was my favourite reason to do anything, which was dramatic irony! the best part about prequel fic is that the reader knows so much more info about canon that you, the writer, can use really effectively to make a scene automatically interesting. (another example: when i wrote the scene in 37 where james nearly has a run-in with filch and drops the map, i was really hoping readers would remember that the marauders lose the map in seventh year and panic thinking this was the moment. it worked!) in 40, i put the auror pov in close proximity to the person who ends up killing her, and i automatically had so much more to say and do with that section because i was trying to figure out what that dynamic would be like (and what repercussions it would have on other aspects of the story) while i was writing it

so, tl;dr, when i have an idea that i know is in theory really cool but can't figure out how to make it interesting on the page (which for me is usually why i don't have much to say), i try and think things through in a very practical way. i ask myself if i'm telling this story the way it needs to be told, and usually when i'm struggling the answer is no!

as for when it's too many ideas that's the problem, i brace myself and (nooooo) cut some of them, or put them aside for now. sometimes they fit in later, and i realise it was just that it was too much cramming to do with the rest of the plot when i initially came up with it. i'm constantly moving things around to accommodate reactions — like, when one big thing happens i often find i haven't given my characters enough breathing room to process before tossing something else at them, and that is a waste of the first big thing!

it's also a question of scale. especially in one big story, you can't have every idea you have in the A-plot. some things will necessarily shift to the background, because they involve secondary characters. it's okay to accept when you have to scale ideas down. this is something i struggle with constantly, but people aren't here to read my more distant subplots except for in the ways those subplots interact with my main characters. it's the latter that i should be focusing on!

In the aftermath of the Chitauri invasion, Tony Stark sorts out his priorities - including one he didn't think he had.

Okay I followed this one from the beginning as a WIP because this is exactly the fic that I was looking for. Tony being Irondad for Harry is the most wholesome thing ever, and Uncle Steve is also 20/10. I will say, this fic is not as dark as a lot of this hp/mcu fics of this trope because it happens in Harry’s younger Hogwarts years and his childhood isn’t too ruined just yet. It focuses a lot on Tony’s growth as a father rather than working through Harry’s trauma (which, don’t get me wrong, that happens as well). Harry still has the naive outlook on life that a child should have and it just makes my heart swell.

Although this fic is done, the sequel has not been uploaded yet, as this fic was just completed late August, but don’t let that deter you. The author is a sweetheart to interact with on new updates (which were quite frequent).

Golden Boy’s Dance by Madriddler

Yeah so uh,,, this is a total guilty pleasure kink fic and I’m not at all ashamed for putting this fic on here. I won’t even lie, sometimes it felt a bit cheesey, but the porn was so well written it didn’t even matter. I swear to you this is porn with plot and lots of it. Harry works through his post traumatic stress disorder in ways that may or may not be slightly unhealthy, but beyond the porn, it’s really about Harry being okay in his own skin, as someone with mental health issues and as a sex worker. It was a hell of a good time to read and I definitely cried for Harry a time or two.

At least, Draco assumes as much until he sees the light falling out from the front door of one of the other rickety old houses in front of them and the three figures cast in its warm glow. For a moment they look like some sort of strange, many legged creature. An acromantula, or a particularly massive Blast-Ended Skrewt. Then Draco hears Pansy make a disgusted sound beside him and the light falls in a less blinding way, and Draco can see that it is actually Potter and the Weasel carrying a large couch between them, and Granger fluttering around them with her wand out, seeming concerned.

I don’t think I’ve laughed this much reading a fic in a long time. The golden trio and the Slytherin gang live in the same neighborhood while attending their 8th year at Hogwarts and i swear to fucking god, the amount of mutual pining and angst between Harry and Draco is fucking ridiculous, but you can’t help but love them anyway. Sometimes I wanted to throttle them and then shove them into a closet together so they would just t a l k but like in a good way. also the Christmastime atmosphere is something I just live for.

When I say this one hurt, I mean it h u r t. I feel so bad because when I first read the tags I laughed when I saw the illiterate tag because I make the “I can’t read” jokes often but then I read the fic and i felt SO BAD OMG.

I am no fan of Snape, let it be known, but this fic, I think made me feel like he actually deserved a bit of a redemption arc (even if it’s fanon). This whole time, all I could think of is giving harry a big hug and never letting him go.

We love a fic where the OCs are wonderful and the writing style is immaculate. The incorporation of tarot and divination into the chapter names and plot also makes my babywitch heart s i n g!!

Although the journey might not be easy, Tony and Harry learn to heal and become a family, facing trials and tribulations on the way such as a scheming Death, a Mad Titian, Dark Wizards, dangerous Doctors, and living Wards.

I’m so sorry to give you a WIP that hasn’t been updated in 10 months, but I couldn’t let this one slide. I’m so attached to these characters it’s unhealthy. I’m not gonna lie, this fic was the product of a very hyperspecific filtered search on AO3 but I’m not even mad at it. Tony is Harry’s father but unlike the other fic on this rec list, Harry is a bit more grown up and bears a lot of the scars of 5th year (y’all don’t need me to specify with that one). It’s a lovely family dynamic and super fluffy Peter and Harry wow we love to see it. Harry is also super fucking smart AS HE IS! I will never get over people calling him stupid ugh Harry rights. But yes, author friend, if you see this, update when you can I’m so in love with this.
